Missed Connections

Last night my roommate and I went to the nearby park to see the Orionid meteor shower. Unfortunately for us, it was cloudy and the city lights made it near impossible to make out anything. I set my alarm for 5:00 a.m. so I could at least try to see out my window but my sleepyhead couldn't function properly. I just turned my alarm off and went back to sleep. I've seen many shooting stars in the past but never a meteor shower.

I'm now watching The Road Warrior. I read somewhere that Balmain's SS 09 collection seemed to be inspired by this film. I've only just started but I already want to know where I can get these costumes, they're fantastic.

: (

I all of a sudden feel like this is too self-important to do anymore so I'm just going to drink tea with toast.

Hey Nineteen

19, I'm looking at you right in the eye. You're going to be the best, you know that right? Together we can do anything. No one will give us an award, any congratulations or even a greeting card but we will make us proud. Make lists and make life.

Love,

Esra.

"That's like when people call actors geniuses. You know there's real geniuses, right?"

Yes Bill Hader, I do realize there are real geniuses out there.

But wearing ties like these as a belt is pretty genius, right?

That kind of day...

Such a beautiful song. I'm glad I'm going to be busy in a few. I can't let this happen tomorrow.

Almost a voyeur

I love to look in other people's closets. Every time Brooke and I visit each other's rooms, which is very frequently since we live in the same building, we go through our closets as though it were the first time we'd seen them. Lucky lady Garance Dore was granted a tour of Anna Dello Russo's closet by the owner herself. She keeps two apartments; one for living and one for all her clothes, shoes and accessories. Can you imagine what it must look like? Heaven could not compare. I'm not sure my things would fill up a single room, let alone an entire apartment. I wonder what she stores in the kitchen?

Recently, I've been infatuated with Juliette Lewis. She was so fun in Whip It and she's a certified Rock Queen. Here is what her closet looks like:

I wish I could poke through and try things on. That sequined top hanging from the mirror looks ridiculous in a very good way. I guess that is what sisters are for. Thanks Melodi!

P.S. Addicted to soda? Try this alternate to satisfy your craving for something fizzy: one part lemonade, one part club soda and three ice cubes for good luck. I promise it's delicious.

I've exhausted my ability to write witty titles about 8 posts ago.

Hello blog, I know it seems like I've been neglecting you but the truth is I've just been busy. I actually wrote an entire page worth of topics to write about soon so hopefully I'll have plenty of free time to do just that. Who am I kidding, of course I'll have free time.

In the meantime, I'm mentally compiling a list of things I would ask Fabolous to buy me if he asked me to "Throw it in the Bag". It's starting to get long. And all of Karl Lagerfeld's new collection is on it.

Why am I not sleeping?

When it comes to most things, my father is a firm believer in what's old is good and what's new is not (this does not apply any electronic accoutrement relating to home theater systems). I wouldn't call my father old fashioned but I would say he has more respect for the artists of yesterday, particularly when it comes to music. I remember driving home from a family trip two summers ago when my father and I had a yelling match in the car about "music today". We didn't speak for two days after this fight. He's convinced that the musicians of today are bland, talentless frauds who don't deserve the fame they're given. When it comes to most pop musicians in the Top 40, I definitely agree with him. They just don't have the talent and charisma of the musicians he grew up with who we still listen to today. Although I'll admit to listening and liking some of the catchy tunes on Y100, I think my father and I both agree that they're no Animals, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. But I disagree with him when he insists that all modern musicians are completely without merit. Since my father and I regularly have this argument, I've decided to make it a mission to prove to him wrong. I've already chosen the first album I'm going to present to him this weekend: Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear. I haven't been able to stop listening to this album since I got it a month and a half ago. But then again, I am a sucker for harmonized vocals.

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning Brooke and I have tea and watch the View like little old ladies. This morning when I got to her room, I noticed a cool breeze coming in from her always open window. By cool breeze I mean a slightly cooler, slightly less humid breeze than usual. Seasons hardly waver from summer in Miami. So I dressed appropriately in a long sleeve shirt, vest and jeans. Of course after spending five minutes outside while walking to work I immediately regretted my decision. Don't let the breeze fool you, it's still hot as hell outside. The temperature probably will remain in the 80s for another month or so. Still, it is finally October! I've been waiting all year for this.

!!!

The other day while admiring all the different international fashion magazines at Borders, I couldn't help but wonder why there wasn't a Vogue Türkiye. Less than two weeks later my sister forwarded me this link in an email titled DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!! She didn't actually title it that but while I was reading the post those were my exact thoughts. Vogue Türkiye is coming to life March 2010! As soon as I'm finished writing this I'm going to write an email in my horrendous Turkish to my uncle begging him to mail me every issue. I bet you're wondering who the lovely lady in the photo is. It's Ece Sükan, a Turkish model, stylist and now the Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Türkiye. İyi şanslar, Vogue Türkiye!

Tonight I received a very important package, an early birthday gift to myself. I finally bought myself a camera. I can't use it just yet but expect big and bright photos very soon. Well, as soon as I figure out how to use the darn thing.

Waiting for my matte fingernails to dry (Zoya Loredana) while reading the Anthony Bourdain book. God, I love him. If only I had the skills to attempt any of the recipes in this cookbook.
